About the Author:

Ron Fischer is a photographer living in Oxnard with his wife Beverly, he has four grown children.  After an early retirement in 1995, he began a new career and gained the reputation as "the Popcorn Man."

The shooting of "The Barns of Ventura County" began with a sadly rundown barn on highway 118.  After taking a picture because it looked so forlorn, he realized that there must be a lot of barns in the county that are in just as bad a shape, and with that in mind, Fischer started to seek out what he thought at the time a dozen or so more barns and photograph them.

One hundred and fifty-six barns later, he was finally able to stop putting pins in a Ventura county map to mark the locations of each barn.  it took eighteen months of driving up and down the back roads, through fields and lemon orchards, with Beverly riding shotgun.  He thinks he has located every barn in the county.  Eleven barns have already disappeared since he started the hunt.

Heull Howser and his production company came to Ventura County to film a segment of "California Gold" and traveled with Ron throughout the area and was greeted with an array of beautiful historic barns.
